As graduates of the University of North Dakota, Aethero co-founders Matt Dunlevy and Josh Klug admired and loved the buildings campus offered to students. One day in early 2020, Matt & Josh were in a coffee shop discussing the demolition of the beloved Memorial Union on campus. As the Memorial Union provided countless memories for many students and seeing how the building was little more than 60 years old, a decision was made to find a way help save buildings from this type of inglorious end. Luckily, Matt was part of a team that developed a new piece of intellectual property that could help facility managers and building owners. This new I.P. could provide invaluable data about a building’s exterior and its components. Both founders understood the wide-ranging positive impact this technology could have in the marketplace, so they decided to commercialize this new I.P. and in 2021 Aethero was born. 

In 2022, Aethero was accepted into the national NSF i-Corp program, an initiative that awards funds for research and business development. Later that same year, Aethero was one of only six companies invited to join the gener8tor North Dakota 2023 Cohort. The gener8tor investment accelerator is modeled after Y-Combinator, a profoundly successful technology startup accelerator launched in March 2005. It has been used to launch more than 4,000 companies, including Airbnb, Coinbase, DoorDash, Dropbox, Instacart, Reddit, Stripe, and Twitch. The gener8tor program was developed in Wisconsin by Joe Kirgues and Troy Vosseller in 2012 who recognized the need for investment, training, and mentorship for Midwest startups. 

Today, Aethero continues to develop and deliver AI-powered building & infrastructure data analytics solutions through innovative systems. As for tomorrow, the sky’s the limit.
